Feeding all who come, without asking who they are. The open table is the oldest teaching of the Astana.
The langar is where love becomes bread. Every guest, rich or poor, known or stranger, sits at the same mat and eats from the same degh.
Serving the guests of the Astana with one's own hands is counted as a privilege. Khidmat-e-Khalq, service of creation, is how the lover proves the love.
وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا
“And they give food, despite their own love for it, to the poor, the orphan and the captive.”
Surah Al-Insan 76:8
